It shares a similar cooldown timer, and will make it much easier for you to heal through it. Do not be afraid to trade Astral Shift with enemy cooldowns, including Vendetta from Assassination Rogues.

It can be used while silenced and is often traded with others as well. Astral Shift is another defensive cooldown. This ability is often traded with enemy cooldowns such as Incarnation: King of the Jungle from Feral Druids, Vendetta from Assassination Rogues, and Pillar of Frost from Frost Death Knights because it prevents extreme amounts of damage from DoTs. It is very strong against small attacks like DoTs but it is weak against hard hitting abilities like a Retribution Paladins Templar's Verdict. Earthen Wall Totem has become an extremely strong defensive cooldown.Ascendance is more of a topping mechanic, and is best used if you're falling behind and are in need of as much healing output as possible.Spirit Link Totem can also be used in dire moments to save either yourself or your teammates from death. If you're struggling to top your teammates off and are stuck in crowd control or simply can't cast, dropping a Spirit Link Totem helps you stabilize and not have to worry for a few seconds before you can get those heals rolling again. The use and rotation of these abilities is situational, and sometimes both are used together. Shamans have two major defensive cooldowns to use Spirit Link Totem and Ascendance. It is important to use your Healing Stream Totem when you can effectively use Swirling Currents. For 15 seconds after casting Healing Stream Totem, the healing of your next 3 Riptide, Healing Wave, or Healing Surge will be increased by X%. New to Shadowlands is the incredibly strong Swirling Currents conduit. It can also be used to not only increase the initial heal of Riptide, but it's healing over time (HoT) effect as well. Unleash Life will also increase the additional bounces of Chain Heal as it is based on the initial heal. It is very important to use Unleash Life on cooldown to empower your single target healing abilities. Following this should be two casts of Healing Wave, as it is more mana efficient and provides more healing than Healing Surge. Healing Stream Totem should be kept active as much as possible, unless you're trying to save it for upcoming crowd control or if your teammates aren't taking any damage. Riptide should be pressed on cooldown, or whenever you're in need of Tidal Waves stacks. The healing rotation for Restoration Shaman has always been quite simple in PvP.
